NEW DELHI: Hoax and threatening calls continue to wreak havoc on Indian telecom operators. Between late Friday night and early Saturday morning, three Air India Group flights received threatening messages. Vistara’s Delhi-London flight was diverted to Frankfurt and after thorough inspection, the aircraft departed for its destination. Air India’s Newark-Mumbai flight was delayed for inspection at its departure point before taking off for India. Also, AI Express’ Dubai-Jaipur flight reached its destination and was screened at a remote parking lot upon arrival.
A Vistara spokesperson said: “On October 18th, flight UK17 from Delhi to London received a safety threat on social media. In line with our procedures, we immediately notified all relevant authorities and as a precaution the pilot We have decided to divert the flight.” The Frankfurt flight will land safely at Frankfurt Airport, all mandatory checks will be carried out by the security authorities, after which the aircraft will be allowed to complete the trip and the safety of you, the crew and the aircraft will be our responsibility. More than 40 such false and threatening messages have been sent to both international and domestic flights of Indian airlines since last Sunday.
