ATLANTA (AP) — Quarterback Zach Pyron will make his first start at Georgia Tech since his freshman season in 2022, replacing Haynes King on Saturday against No. 12 Notre Dame.
King left last week’s 41-34 win over North Carolina with an apparent injury to his right arm or shoulder. The junior was not in uniform as he was watching pre-game practice, and Pyron was announced as the starter.
Pyron played every game behind King this season, rushing for 60 yards and four touchdowns. Although he has only thrown seven passes, he has found success as a passer in just two games he started in 2022.
Linebacker Kyle Efford, the Yellow Jackets’ leading tackler, is out with an undisclosed injury. Freshman Taj Butler was announced as the starter.
Notre Dame is missing one of its top defensive players. Cornerback Benjamin Morrison suffered a season-ending hip injury in last week’s 49-7 win over Stanford.
Notre Dame kicker Mitch Jeter is listed as questionable with a hip injury.
