BLACKSBURG, Va. — This week on Tech Talk, Brent Pry addressed the status of Virginia Tech’s transfer portal heading into next season.
Last season, Pry made several shocking transfers. Virginia Tech added eight transfers: linebacker Sam Brumfield from Middle Tennessee, defensive lineman Ainias Peebles from Duke, offensive tackle Montavious Cunningham from Georgia State and defensive tackle Kelvin from Oklahoma. Gilliam, quarterback Colin Schley from UCLA, defensive lineman Curtis Perry from Alabama, linebacker Caleb Spencer from Miami and long snapper Tate Kendall from Massachusetts.
However, Virginia Tech’s approach to the portal could be very different.
Brent Pry had this to say about the transfer portal on last night’s live Tech Talk: It could grow, but that seems to be our situation at the moment. ”

In general, the Hokies have been very good at bringing back talented players under the guidance of head coach Brent Pry. Virginia Tech kept Antoine Powell-Ryland, Josh Fugue, Ali Jennings and others out of the portal.
Manager Brent Pry insisted the Hokies weren’t prepared to lose a ton of players in the offseason, estimating that Virginia Tech would have “five to eight transfer slots” as of now. He also added that his prediction could grow as time goes on, but so far his prediction of “five to eight players” appears to be accurate.
The Hokies will have plenty of players to recruit this offseason, as some recruits have already hit the portal. Top early transfer candidates include Alabama’s Jeheim Ortiz, Texas’ Jontay Cook II, Alabama’s Keanu Cote, North Carolina State’s Red Hibler and Indiana’s Donaven McCurry.
Although Virginia Tech will lose a long list of impactful seniors, the Hokies will still have a chance to further strengthen the young and impressive talent currently on the roster.
