HAMMOND, Ind. – The Michigan Technological University volleyball team competed in the 16th annual Midwest Regional Crossover Tournament on Friday. The Huskies lost 3-0 to No. 19 Quincy in the afternoon, but bounced back with a 3-0 victory over Tiffin in the evening game.
“I was very happy with the way we played to end the day,” Tech coach Matt Jennings said. “It’s not an easy matchup against Tiffin. We really worked hard in every aspect to come out ahead.”

Tech achieved its fifth sweep of the season, 25-18, 25-13, 25-18, improving to 10-7 overall. In this game, the Huskies led just three times and hit .382, holding the Dragons to a .169 batting average.
Rachel Zurek hit a whopping .591 with a match-high 13 kills. Meg Rabe added 12 kills, while Paige Wagner (9), Casey Miners (7) and Jacqueline Yancey (6) also contributed offensively. Tess Hayes started the offense with 39 assists. Amelia Albers led the back row with nine digs, while Hayes and Bryn Erickson each added eight digs.

The Hawks defeated the Huskies 25-19, 25-18, 25-21 to improve to 18-1. There were 11 ties and seven lead changes in the first set. Quincy took an early lead in the second game and turned around in the third after Tech held a five-point lead.
Meg Raabe led the Huskies with 11 kills, and Rachel Zurek had nine kills, including eight in the final two frames. Tess Hayes led the offense with 24 assists. Four different Huskies had at least five digs, with Jacqueline Yancey leading the way with nine.
The Huskies will complete their crossover and non-conference schedule this season with a game against Findlay at 3 p.m. Tech will be looking to avenge their loss to the Oilers on September 13th at the SDC Gym.
