A California tribe that supports education throughout the state, including the Coachella Valley.
State Representative Greg Wallace presented $5,000 Barona Education Grants to students at La Quinta Middle School on Thursday.
This funding is intended to purchase educational materials such as books and computers to help current and future students learn more.
La Quinta Middle School administrators said they plan to use the award to purchase high-interest books and support families to improve their students’ literacy skills.
La Quinta Middle School Principal Kristen Wood said: “We think this is great. Anyone, any charity, supports early literacy and we love that the school is supporting that effort. I’m grateful.”
The Barona Band of Mission Indians is located in San Diego County. Each year, we award grants to K-12 schools in every California Senate and State Assembly district, as well as to each state executive branch holder.

Grant funds cannot be used for wages, recreational equipment, office supplies, furniture, or other non-academic projects or programs.
