BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech Volleyball will host North Carolina in a contest this Friday, October 18th at 6:00 PM ET at Cassell Coliseum. Returning to Blacksburg after a two-game road stint against No. 20 Georgia Tech and Clemson, the Hokies will look to make the most of what is sure to be a thrilling matchup. Fans won’t want to miss this match, as there will be exciting giveaways and special promotions for fans in attendance. A key matchup – When the Tar Heels visit Blacksburg on Friday, the contest will be the 42nd meeting between the two programs. The Hokies, who feature outside hitter Belle Patrick and libero Leandra Mangal-Duran, will look to do so against a UNC team that has played three of its past four games on the road. Dig Pink Night – Sponsored by Carilion Clinic, Friday’s game against North Carolina will be the first of two Dig Pink Nights this season, the second being Oct. 20 against Duke. Athletes will wear pink gear to show support for breast cancer awareness. month. Intra-Conference Battle – Friday’s matchup will be the seventh of 20 consecutive ACC matchups to conclude the volleyball season for the Hokies. Virginia Tech enters the game with a 7-9 record and will look to continue that momentum after a win over conference foe Clemson. Players of the Match – Fans in attendance should take a look at a few players selected for the matchup against North Carolina State. Junior middle blocker Jordan Hallman recorded three or more blocks in 14 of 16 games this season and helped the Hokies record 20 or more blocks in four games. At the libero position, Leandra Mangal-Duran reached her 1,000th career goal against Miami and will continue her quest for a season total of 180 goals against North Carolina. Duran also had a perfect serve-receive record in four consecutive games, totaling 49 perfect receptions. The Rio Grande, Puerto Rico native has a perfect record in 10 games this season. Belle Patrick made an immediate impact upon arriving in Blacksburg, with the freshman currently leading the team in kills and points through 16 games. Patrick has double-digit kills in eight of 16 games this fall. There will be plenty of cheering from the fans in attendance when the Hokies beat the Hardwood on Friday.
