One aspect that may make your mind slip is how you move all your clothes into your new home. Moving can be a nasty process, and at the end what you want is to tear your favorite graphic tee or end up with a huge pile of iron clothing to iron when you want to settle in your new home. To avoid this, here are some tips on how to pack clothes for a move. Whether you’re moving a few blocks away to your Seattle home or travelling across the country to rent an Atlanta home, the tips of these moves will keep your wardrobe intact.
1. Use a wardrobe box
No one wants to see all of their clothes wrinkled while they travel. So, wardrobe boxes are the perfect tool to get clothes from point A to point B.

2. Make the most of your wardrobe box

“Packing clothes for movement takes time and doesn’t have to be daunting,” adds the black tie that runs Ellis Issey. “Put your overnight bags in the clothes you need, and use a medium-sized box for shoes and folded clothes that are not yet in the dresser. For the dresser, close the drawers, wrap your hands around, and ask the dresser to still dress and secure them.”
6. Use your luggage when moving clothes
Your luggage does not need to be used for holidays only. To save boxes, you can use your existing luggage to carry clothes to your new home.
“Let your luggage work,” says Andrew, the dynamic mover. “A suitcase with wheels is perfect for packing heavy clothing such as jeans, jackets, shoes, etc. It makes transportation easier on moving days and wastes the space in the box.
“Packing clothes for travel can be simple and stress-free with just a little planning,” says Maria Pavletic of Minimoves. “Use a wardrobe box for hanging items to keep it wrinkle-free and roll casual clothes into suitcases or small boxes, or easily transport them. Don’t forget to save some outfits in your new home on the first day.”
7. Know when to roll your clothes, not fold
Growing up, we were all taught to fold laundry before storing it. Folding garments are generally great for keeping everything in great order, but they are not the most efficient way to pack clothes when moving. Every inch is important when it comes to moving your belongings, so finding a way to steal a couple here can save you space and money. According to Roni Klajner of Serenity Movers, soft clothing like t-shirts and leggings saves space when packing for movement.
8. Use hangers and trash bags to keep clothes together
For those who don’t want to spend extra cash on wardrobe boxes, there’s another easy way to keep your hanging clothes together and wrinkle-free. All you need is a few big garbage bags
“If you don’t use a wardrobe box with clothes hanging, put them on a hanger and use a garbage bag for easy transport,” advises Stephanie Rosenland from the senior movement. “Put the top of the hanger from the closed edge of the bag and pull the bag down around the clothes.”
9. Use second-hand clothing to cushion items that are prone to breakage
In addition to the box, moving requires other materials such as bubble wrap to keep items safe and intact. If you choose to move a more minimalist approach, you can save on materials by using old clothes to protect your vulnerable belongings.
“Packing for transport can be done wisely than simply filling in the box,” says Mark Ehard, the mover, not the shaker. “Using less precious clothing to wrap kitchenware and other fragile items, you can store materials such as bubble wrap and unprinted newspapers. Sheets and linens are also great for electronics, so don’t forget to dust them first.
10. Make sure your clothes are available while you are on the move
One of the most annoying things about moving is that you don’t have easy access to the items you need. This is especially true when it comes to stuffing clothes to move. However, if you plan ahead, you can work around this issue.
“We recommend packing some clothes individually so they can be used just before the movement,” says Rob of Eversafe Move. “This way, I’m not stressing about unpacking everything to keep everything flowing in your life.”
11. Use a medium box to move easily
Packing all your clothes in the largest moving box you can find might be fascinating. After all, the larger the box, the less you need to fill and move. But we, not professional bodybuilders, may have a bit of a struggle to hold those big boxes. You may need a little more box, but your back certainly appreciates you.
“When packing clothes for transportation, make sure you use the correct box,” says Brian Goalstone of Golden State Storage. “You might want to pack everything in one huge box, but medium boxes are perfect for easy unpacking after moving. With medium boxes, you can organize them by type of clothing and organize your clothes seasonally.”
