Odense, Denmark, October 21, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Universal Robots, the Danish collaborative robot (cobot) company, today announced the launch of its ready-to-use hardware and software toolkit, the UR AI Accelerator. It was announced for the first time. Created to further enable the development of AI-powered cobot applications.
Designed for commercial and research applications, UR AI Accelerator provides developers with an extensible platform to build applications, accelerate research, and reduce time to market for AI products.
This toolkit brings AI acceleration to Universal Robots’ (UR) next-generation software platform PolyScope Masu. Specifically, NVIDIA Isaac Manipulator enables developers to bring accelerated performance and cutting-edge AI technology to their robotics solutions. The toolkit also includes a high-quality newly developed Orbbec Gemini 335Lg 3D camera.
All seamlessly integrated, this toolkit provides developers with a complete go-to-market architecture, ready to use right out of the box.
The AI Accelerator leverages UR’s platform through built-in demo programs to enable features such as pose estimation, tracking, object detection, path planning, image classification, quality inspection, and state detection. The UR AI Accelerator powered by PolyScope
Kim Povlsen, CEO and President of Universal Robots, said: “With the UR AI Accelerator, we give our partners everything they need to develop and deploy new and innovative AI solutions.” “While we are already the leading platform for bringing AI cobot applications to market, Now we’re pushing the boundaries even further, and the most exciting part is seeing the impact these new features will have on our partners and end customers.”
James Davidson, Chief AI Officer at Teradyne Robotics, elaborates:
“UR’s AI Accelerator is built for areas where AI is making a real difference. If you’re building a solution on our platform, you can reduce time to deployment while also improving AI-based solution development. Taking physical AI to a whole new level, the AI Accelerator is just the first of a series of AI-powered products and capabilities in UR’s pipeline to market. with the focused goal of making robotics more accessible than ever.”

Announced in the same week that hundreds of robotics software developers gather at ROSCon 2024 in Odense, Denmark, home of UR, the UR AI Accelerator with CNC machine tending applications will be demonstrated at the ROSCon trade show. It will be on display.
The PolyScope X platform is available worldwide and can be used for any collaborative robot automation application across industries. Its high degree of flexibility and scalability will be on display at PolyScope X Festival in November, showcasing a variety of solutions already developed on this new platform, including AI solutions. With a small hardware upgrade, the software is compatible with UR’s e-series cobots and new generation cobots UR20 and UR30.
