
Artificial intelligence has been working behind the scenes in our lives for decades. However, the advent of large-scale language models (LLMs) such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude has catapulted this technology into the public consciousness.
Leading industry portals Zillow, Redfin, Realtor.com, and Homes.com are pushing AI to the forefront of their engagement strategies by launching apps within ChatGPT and introducing AI-powered natural language search.
This move makes sense. An October 2025 Realtor.com survey revealed that 82% of Americans use AI tools as a starting point for their home purchase. However, the majority (66%) still look to real estate agents as their most important source of information and trust them to confirm what they learned on ChatGPT, Claude, or Google’s Gemini.
Inman conducted product demos of each portal to better understand how the AI-powered search functionality works. Here’s a look at what the demo revealed about the journey portal that guides homebuyers from ChatGPT to their own search platform and, hopefully, into the hands of an agent.
