Elon Musk gave a $1 million check to a man who signed a petition supporting free speech and the right to bear arms — and he’s not stopping there.
Musk announced on X that he plans to donate $1 million to randomly selected residents of battleground states who sign a petition every day leading up to the U.S. presidential election on November 5th.
“We want to make sure everyone in the battleground states knows about this, and we think this will help ensure that,” he wrote.
The tech billionaire kicked off his giveaway Saturday night at a rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he handed a $1 million check to a man named John Dreher, who was in the audience.
“John had no idea,” Mr. Musk said after asking Mr. Dreher to join him on stage. “Anyway, you’re welcome.”
“The only thing we’re asking for $1 million is for you to be our petition advocate, and that’s really it,” he added.

In a promotional video for the petition, Dreher said: “When he called me, the first thing that happened was I was screaming — this is a million dollars — and waving the check in the air.”
“When I met Elon, he’s such an influential person that I kind of forgot about money,” he added.
This isn’t the first time Musk has offered financial incentives to people to sign a petition.
Musk has so far offered $100 to registered voters in Pennsylvania and $47 to refer voters in battleground states.

The petition was launched by Musk’s America PAC, a super PAC created by Musk to support Trump using nearly $75 million of his own money.
According to X’s bio, the PAC was founded to “support candidates who champion safe borders, smart spending, safe cities, a fair judiciary, free speech, and self-defense.”
Musk publicly supported Trump after the former president’s assassination attempt in July.
