Ward’s Science Kit for OpenSciEd Curriculum takes the hassle out of lesson preparation and gives teachers everything they need to deliver hands-on and engaging science activities. All materials are provided, so teachers can focus on teaching without worrying about collecting materials.
To see how the kit would work in a real classroom, we asked STEM educator and teacher Naomi Meredith to try out the Earth’s Resources and Human Impact kit. Here’s her review of Teacher Picks and why she recommends these kits to make science lessons easier and more interactive.
Does this kit align with specific standards or curriculum guidelines?
yes! This is why these kits are so appealing to teachers. A complete overview, including all standards, is provided on the website to help you understand how to use it for your specific needs. You will find that the standards, all supplies listed, and much more are listed.
What is your relationship with OpenSciEd?
For teachers who use OpenSciEd, this kit is a great addition to their lessons as it contains the materials needed to cover multiple lessons. (Not familiar with OpenSciEd’s curriculum? Don’t worry, it’s free and available for download here.)
What did you like most about this kit?
I really enjoyed how the unit materials were categorized by lesson plan. Overall, it was easy to follow as it was clearly labeled which materials were used for each lesson. Additionally, there was enough material for the entire class and for this particular unit’s material list.
What about the overall quality?
The materials are of high quality or name brands, so you don’t have to worry about them falling apart during experiments. In the past, science kits have been frustrating when they don’t have everything you need, especially unique items. But that wasn’t the case here. For example, one lesson in this kit required a hacksaw, and they provided one.

How does this make your job easier as a teacher?
It’s definitely a time saver. The last thing you want to do on the weekend is run through multiple stores looking for the exact items you need for an experiment. Everything is here.
