The Shawsheen Technical College women’s soccer team is in great shape.
After a sluggish 2-6 start to the season, the Rams won five straight games to improve their record to 7-6 and take a big step towards a spot in the MIAA state tournament.
On Saturday, Shawsheen defeated Lynn Classical 3-1.
Senior Kailyn Harles scored two goals and junior Maria Cafaro had another for the Rams.
Recording assists were junior Carla Salter, senior Judith Sloman and junior Jaylin DiNuccio.
Senior Sydney McPherson made 12 saves in goal.
In the last game, Shawsheen defeated Whittier Tech 3-0.
Two of those goals were scored by Cafaro and the other by Sloman.
DiNuccio, junior Laila Dickinson and sophomore Heidi Ferrer earned assists.
McPherson pitched a shutout between the posts.
“The defense played great,” Shawsheen coach Doug Michaud said. “The defense did a great job of starting the team’s offense and getting the ball up the field.”
Defensive standouts included senior Kendra Minghella, senior Skylar Driscoll, junior Shea Kelly and sophomore Tabby Woodward.
Last Thursday, the Rams had four different goal scorers and once again defeated Whittier 4-0.
Sloman, Cafaro, junior Crystal Wells and freshman Ellie Gillis recorded for the Rams. Salter added two assists.
Junior Ava Noble also played well in the middle.
“The team is playing great and we’re looking forward to finishing the season on a strong note,” Michaud said.
After Tuesday’s game against Lowell Catholic, Shawsheen concludes the regular season with a home game against Bedford on Friday afternoon and a trip to Dracut on Monday.

The Shawsheen Technical College men’s soccer team improved to 8-7-1 with a 7-0 victory over Lowell Catholic on Monday.
Junior David Vitale led the way with three goals, and senior Jack Bourque added two.
Other records were achieved for the Rams by seniors Niko Georgilis and Ollie Ferrer.
Two assists were given to senior Jason Dube, and one assist was given to Vitale, Georgis, Bourque, senior Jason Spaniol, senior Nick Palmerino and sophomore John Galicia.
Senior goaltender Caleb Molina recorded his fourth shutout.
Last week, Shawsheen lost a close game to Northeast Regional and defeated Minuteman Regional 3-0.
In an exciting 2-1 loss to Northeast, Burke scored the Ram goal with an assist from senior Layne Coutu.
Senior Jayden Perez, senior Niko Georgulis and sophomore Joe Mitic all played well for the Rams.
Vitale had a goal and an assist against the Minutemen. Burke and senior Ethan Melancon were the other Ram scores.
Assists were provided by Perez and Georgis.
Senior keeper Caleb Molina continued his recent excellent play with his third shutout. For Shawsheen, senior Ollie Ferrer, senior Jason Dube and sophomore Morris Lopez also played well.
volleyball
The Shawsheen Technical College volleyball team snapped its 18th straight win with wins over Innovation Academy and Greater Lawrence last week.
In the game against Innovation, they won 25-19, 25-20, 25-20, with Maule Kruger leading the way with 24 assists.
Francesca Reardon had 12 kills and four aces, and Hope DiDonato had four blocks, two kills, and two aces.
Against Greater Lawrence, Shawsheen won by scores of 25-21, 25-12, and 25-19.
Fiona Rexford led the attack with seven kills.
cross country
Late in the season, Shawsheen’s boys cross country team defeated Northeast 18-41, but the girls lost to the Golden Knights 25-39.
Last Wednesday, the Shawsheen boys lost to Greater Lowell 20-43.
In that race, Noah Brooks of Shawsheen took first place, setting a new course record with a time of 17 minutes, 07 seconds.
The Shawsheen girls team lost to Greater Lowell 15-50.
