This week on Spotlight on Maryland, Gina Crush joins Roger Schulman, president and CEO of the Fund for Educational Excellence, in the studio to talk about its mission, its 40th anniversary, and the city’s schools. He spoke about popular programs such as Heart of the School, which recognizes and celebrates school principals. Established by Mayor William Donald Schaefer in 1984, the Fund for Educational Excellence (FFEE), or Endowment, aims to accelerate solutions and expand resources to address equity and opportunity gaps for all students in Baltimore City Public Schools. We are an independent, non-profit organization working to fill the gap between and recognizing excellence.
With input from the community, FFEE identifies challenges, researches and develops recommendations, and promotes innovative solutions to improve policies, processes, and programs in the Baltimore City Public Schools. They identify, secure, and manage private and public funding on behalf of Baltimore City Public Schools. Since Roger joined the organization 14 years ago, the foundation has secured and managed more than $85 million in private and public funding.
The foundation recognizes excellence through programs such as Heart of the School, a year-round community-driven project that celebrates and supports principals in Baltimore City Schools through recognition, grants and events.
