JP Morgan’s summer reading list

JPMorgan’s latest summer reading list, an annual favorite among the wealthy, includes books on artificial intelligence, longevity, Keith Haring and lemon recipes.
The list is compiled annually with input from JPMorgan client advisors around the world and has become a popular guide for wealthy individuals looking for summer beach reading. This year’s list includes 14 titles that reflect our clients’ key issues and concerns.
AI is at the top of the list, with two books published on the subject. Sebastian Mallaby’s The Infinity Machine features Google DeepMind CEO and co-founder Demis Hassabis and his battle for AI breakthroughs. Josh Tyrangel’s “AI for Good” focuses on how technology is helping solve everyday challenges.
This list also includes books on leadership and performance. Cognitive scientist George Newman’s book, How Great Ideas Come to Life, is about how to develop the skills for discovery. The Stimulated Mind by neuroscientist and physician Dr. Tommy Wood explains how to keep your brain adaptable and focused.
As wealthy Americans increasingly invest in sports, the list also includes NBA analyst Rick Butcher’s book Coachable, which gleans lessons from conversations with former NBA star Michael Jordan, former NFL quarterback Tom Brady and former WNBA great Diana Taurasi.
Darin Oduyoye, chief communications officer at JPMorgan Asset & Wealth Management, which oversees the list, said family offices are particularly interested in books about generational change because many family offices manage the transfer of wealth to children and family members. Of particular interest to family offices, Oduyoye said, is a book called “Mothering” by Jennifer Breheny Wallace.
“Her message resonates with the next generation of family leaders around purpose, identity, and how emerging decision-makers define what they want to pursue, especially as families navigate leadership transitions and succession,” he said.
