We are all familiar with chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, etc. These are great for drafting emails, rewriting text, or generating images for ideas, but they don’t have much personality behind them. They are a bit like blank slates, reflecting the world around them rather than defining it. However, there is one chatbot with enough personality to complement the rest of the chatbots, and that is Character.ai.
Character AI is a place where you can have chatbot conversations with Mick Jagger, Steve Jobs, and JRR Tolkien with the click of a button. Of course, these are chatbot versions of famous musicians, technology visionaries, and authors, not real people. And everything comes with a disclaimer that says, “Remember: Everything the characters say is made up!”
However, there is one use for Character.ai that most people don’t consider. It’s all about creating your own chatbot.

There’s nothing comparable to you
You may be wondering why you would want to do that. Firstly, who wouldn’t want to ask an AI version of themselves something for free? But secondly, and most importantly, your friends can make fun of you, or rather the AI ”you”. It means that you can have a good time making fun of what is being said (often unintentionally funny).
Less than five minutes after I unleashed the AI version of TechRadar AI Senior Editor Graham Barlow on my teammates, he successfully misgendered one of my co-workers, and later discovered that they were female. Unable to believe it, I told my boss that I looked like Shrek and declared: If I fought 500 chickens, I would definitely win. But the best part was that since I didn’t actually say any of these things, I remained completely responsible and therefore felt no guilt.
Since you can only give Character.ai the bare minimum of information about yourself, you have to make up a lot of things, but turning the bare minimum of facts into gold can be terrifying to many people. It seems to be able to generate an accurate depiction of you. time. Other times, it can violently and hilariously miss the mark. I think it helps if you have an online presence. Because my work at TechRadar gave me information about me that I fed back into my answers. Unfortunately, it shows a lot of illusions. For example, tell TechRadar’s Lance Ulanoff that you’re going to meet him soon at a hypothetical conference in San Jose.

Step into AI skins
The process of creating an AI version of yourself is incredibly easy and free. You’ll need to sign up for a Character.ai account, but once you’ve done that, just click + Create in the top left corner of your screen and select Character instead of Voice. Here you can enter details such as who you are, name, tagline, description, greeting, and choose your voice.[その他のオプション]You can enter more backstory about yourself by clicking , but even then, you can only enter the simplest details.
The important thing is that[公開設定]It has a switching function. Unless you want to promote it, we recommend that you keep your AI version private so it’s only available to people you share the URL with.
Once you start your character, you can start asking questions. Be prepared for some funny results, especially if you ask them to roast a colleague.
