A witness thwarted an attempted robbery at a Simi Valley store early Sunday morning, police said.
The incident occurred in the 2200 block of Tapo Street, where witnesses spotted four masked suspects wearing dark clothing inside a closed store and called authorities. Witnesses reported that the suspects were attempting to load a safe into a vehicle.
When the suspects spotted witnesses, they abandoned the safe and fled in a dark gray Nissan hatchback, police said. I couldn’t see the car’s license plate.
Police quickly responded and began a pursuit throughout Los Angeles, but the suspect’s reckless and high-speed driving led to the investigation being called off.
Authorities confirmed that the safe had been recovered and all currency was in storage.
“We thank the community for their vigilance and emphasize that a collective effort is essential to maintaining a safe environment,” Simi Valley Police Department said in a department news release.
