Virginia Tech forward Heijer Miller could be in trouble after being waived by the program, Sports Illustrated reported Wednesday.
No reason for the dismissal has been disclosed at this time, but the report suggests that “new information” has come to light related to the 2023 gambling scandal involving the Temple Owls men’s basketball team.
Miller, who transferred to Virginia Tech after playing at Temple last season, was part of a team that saw some unusual line movement throughout the season.

In the game against UAB, Temple went from a 1.5-point deficit to an 8-point deficit by the afternoon, but suffered an embarrassing 100-72 loss.
Miller had one of his worst games of the contest, with zero assists and zero free throw shooting. It was the only matchup all season with a goose egg in either category.
According to SI, Temple also lost to Tulsa in its previous game, which caused some eyebrows to be raised.
The Owls were 5.5 point favorites to win against Tulsa, but fell behind 16-2 during the game, never taking the lead, and lost by five points.

These are not the only examples, as gambling watchdog US Integrity has been monitoring Temple Games for some time.
Despite going 12-19, Temple made a splash in the ACC Tournament, rushing to the championship game with Miller averaging 27.8 points per game.
Miller quickly entered the transfer portal before committing to Virginia Tech, but he also had interest from other programs.

At Temple, he averaged 15.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.8 steals in 36.4 minutes per game.
The 6-foot-1 guard from Philadelphia was expected to be a mainstay for the Hokies as the starting guard in 2024.
Miller has not been charged with any crime, but his dismissal from Virginia Tech makes it difficult to imagine him playing anywhere this season.
