Meta announced Wednesday that it has restructured some of its largest businesses, in a move that eliminates some roles in divisions such as Instagram, Reality Labs and WhatsApp.
The number of roles affected is unknown.
A spokesperson said in a statement that Meta is looking to fill staff whose roles have been eliminated.
“Several Meta teams are currently making changes to ensure resources are aligned with long-term strategic goals and location strategy,” the spokesperson said. “This includes moving some teams to different locations and some employees to different roles.”
Former Meta employee Jane Manchun Wong said in a social media post early Wednesday that her role had been affected. According to LinkedIn, Wong was a security engineer at the company.
“I’m still trying to process this, but my role in the meta has been affected. Thank you to everyone for my wild journey in the meta,” she said.
Wong did not respond to BI’s request for comment.
Meta has experienced several layoffs in recent years. CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously said the company’s “efficiency” efforts would be permanent.
BI previously reported that Meta had cut 22% of its workforce as of March, following the first mass layoffs at the end of 2022.
The company’s ranking has expanded in recent years, from about 45,000 companies at the end of 2019 to about 70,000 companies as of June 30, according to filings.
