Jonathan Dean Bishop, 51, of Bishop Law Group, was convicted of 27 felonies by a Contra Costa County jury earlier this month.
A former real estate attorney from Walnut Creek, California, is facing multiple life sentences after being convicted of 27 felonies related to child sexual abuse and possession of hundreds of images of child sexual abuse material.
Jonathan Dean Bishop, 51, of Bishop Law Group, was found guilty by a Contra Costa County jury earlier this month of lewd acts on three minor victims under the age of 14 and 24 counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 10 over an eight-year period from 2010 to 2018.
The child sexual abuse materials seized from Bishop were recovered from a hard drive removed by officials at Oakland International Airport in December 2023, when Bishop flew in from Florida, where he lived.
“The courage shown by the victims was extraordinary, and their bravery made this conviction possible,” Contra Costa District Attorney Diana Becton said in a statement. “We thank law enforcement and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force for their outstanding work. Their forensic and investigative efforts were critical to this case.”
“I am also proud of the dedication and professionalism of our entire trial team, including the deputy district attorney who prosecuted the case, law clerks, witness coordinators, victim advocates, and investigative staff, which was evident at every step of the way. Our office always stands by the most vulnerable members of our community and remains committed to holding accountable those who harm children.”
Bishop was admitted to the California Bar in 2004 and ceased practicing law in February 2025, but was deemed “unfit to practice law in California” due to violations of the Client Trust Account Protection Program (CTAPP).
Bishop’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 17, according to the Contra Costa Herald.
