Ideas to get started in your classroom
1. Make it a fun writing assignment.
Ask students to explore their passion and write about it. Questions to consider include: What am I passionate about? What do I love to do to positively impact my community? What do I strongly believe in and stand for? Answering these questions , students will be able to submit their applications. Simply record a 2-minute video explaining the passion you’ve already written about.
2. Learn video skills.
Introduce your students to free platforms like Canva and Adobe Express where they can start learning about creating and editing videos. Have your students record a video about their passion. You can then test your video skills by editing video segments and adding special effects. These additions are not required at all to submit an application, but they can be a great way to help students learn new skills along the way.
3. Work with your application during downtime.
Can we have 10 more minutes at the end of class? Introduce your students to the Taco Bell Foundation LiveMath Scholarship! Use the extra time in class so they can brainstorm ideas for their application video. It would also be a good idea to introduce it in the homeroom or study room where high school students have plenty of time to work.
4. Explore careers related to your passion.
Do you have career research classes? Or is it a class that encourages students to think about their future? Ask high school students to brainstorm what they’re truly passionate about and connect that passion to a potential career. This is a great activity to get students thinking about their future while gathering information that will help them submit a video for this scholarship opportunity.
Video shooting tips:
Video length must be a minimum of 30 seconds and a maximum of 2 minutes. Use your time wisely! Stay away from visible logos in the background or on clothing during the shoot. Do not include copyrighted music. Keep it all your own! Don’t include other people in your videos. The most important thing is to have fun and be yourself.
