OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) – State Superintendent Ryan Walters is demanding that Vice President Kamala Harris repay more than $474 million to Oklahomans for costs related to illegal immigration.
In his letter to Harris, Walters argued that the Biden-Harris administration’s failure to secure the border and enforce federal immigration laws has placed a significant financial burden on Oklahoma taxpayers.
“Kamala Harris’ border fiasco has directly placed a tremendous economic burden on all Americans, especially Oklahomans,” Walters said. “Oklahomaans are kind, hard-working people who can no longer bear to be held accountable for the failures of the federal government. We cannot effectively budget and allocate critical resources if we do not take into account the costs that illegal immigration imposes on schools.”
In August, Walters announced that the Oklahoma State Department of Education would investigate the financial impact on Oklahoma taxpayers of educating the children of illegal immigrants.
The redemption request was calculated at $474.9 million.
