ATLANTA, Ga. – Albert Hanson shot a 4-under 68 on Monday and Cale Fontenot shot a 3-under 69 to finish third and fourth in the individual tournament and lead the 14th-ranked Georgia Tech golf team to the top spot. Led him to the 1 seed. Match play at the 10th Eastlake Cup.
The East Lake Cup brings together the 2024 NCAA Championship semifinal teams for three days of stroke and match play competition. Tech’s 8-under 280 score was one stroke better than fourth-place Auburn and Florida State (7-under 281), which they faced in the NCAA championship game last May. Ohio State, ranked 4th in the NCAA semifinals, recorded a 2-over par score of 290 and will be the 4th seed.
The Yellow Jackets and Buckeyes will meet in one semifinal game Tuesday at East Lake Golf Club, while the Tigers and Seminoles will face off in a rematch of the 2024 NCAA Championship title race. Competition begins at 10:40 a.m., with the winners competing in a championship match on Wednesday and the loser playing for third place.
Last year, when the Eastlake Cup was held at the Atlanta Athletic Club, Tech finished third in stroke play, losing to North Carolina in the semifinals and defeating Florida in the third-place game. Fontenot, then a freshman, earned medalist honors.
Tech Lineup – Tech started strong, taking an early team lead and briefly trading the lead with FSU on the back nine, but Hanson sank a birdie putt on the par-4 16th hole. He completely took the lead. Hanson and Fontenot each made birdies on the par-5 18th hole to keep the Seminoles at bay.
Hansson, a freshman from Fiskebekskir, Sweden, had his best round of the fall on Monday with five birdies and an eagle. Fontenot, a sophomore from Lafayette, La., who shot a 68 last year at Atlanta Athletic Club, had four birdies and one bogey on Monday’s card.
“I felt pretty good, yeah,” Hanson said. “I’ve been struggling with my short game and putting for the past few months, but I’ve been feeling a little bit better this week. I felt good this morning.”
Redshirt junior Benjamin Reuter (Naarden, Netherlands) is Tech’s top player this fall, ranked No. 32 in the nation, and the Jackets shot a 2-under 70 to lead defending NCAA individual champion Hiroshi Tai (Singapore). ) added 1 RBI. Over par 73.
Junior Aidan Tran (Fresno, Calif.) shot a 78, but it didn’t count toward Tech’s team total.

Defending NCAA team champion Auburn and runner-up Florida State each had three players under par on Monday, but their fourth player had a higher score and they were tied by one stroke at 7-under 281.
Individual Leaderboard – Ohio State may have finished fourth in the team event, but sophomore Jack Wojtko had three birdies and an eagle in his final six holes to earn medalist honors with a 6-under 66. did. East Lake Cup Information – The 10th annual East Lake Cup continues through Wednesday at East Lake Golf Club, which hosts the final event of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs each year. The tournament features four teams from each of the men’s and women’s semifinals from the previous year’s NCAA Championships, competing in stroke play and match play. East Lake Golf Club measures 7,195 yards and plays to a par of 72.
Golf Channel and Peacock will provide live coverage of the competition daily from 3pm to 6pm.
