We recently learned that in 2032 there is a 3.1% chance that an asteroid will hit Earth. This is a significant increase from past estimates.
3.1% is HAGE. it doesn’t matter. But that’s the probability that it will hit the total where.
What will be a hit? It’s not a lake or river, but rather the ocean. The reason is that the oceans cover 71% of the Earth.
Still, it leaves 29%. But think about what we know about that 29%. Most of them don’t live on it. Alternatively, if there are people living there, the population density could be less than 50 people per square miles. AI-ASIAD Google search states that over 90% of the land on the planet have a population density of less than 50 people per square miles. This leaves 10% (or a little less) of the surface of the Earth, with over 50 people over square miles.
Now you’re ready to do the subcomputation.
Possibility of an asteroid hitting areas of 50 or more per square mile = 0.031 * 0.29 * 0.1 = 0.000899.
That’s a 1,112th chance.
It’s still big. But it’s not a hajj.
What about the idea that if an asteroid hits the ocean or a land where almost no one lives, it will destroy the Earth?
I read the articles I read that it is not true. It states:
Scientists use the Turin scale to assess the dangers of asteroids. The Turin scale ranges from 0 to 10. A score means 0, and 10 indicates a world catastrophe. Asteroid 2024 YR4 currently holds a 3 rating. This means that there is a possibility of local destruction. This is rare and it’s just that [sic] It is given to objects with impact probability greater than 1%.
After eating estheticate of current sizes between 131 and 295 feet, YR4 falls under the “City Killer” category. Bruce Betts, chief scientist at the nonprofit Planetary Society, explained that “when placed on top of Paris, London or New York, it essentially wipes out the entire city and surrounding submarines.”
This kind of impact has destroyed cities such as Mumbai, Bogota and Lagos, and is located within its predicted trajiechtori, putting around 110 million people at risk.
But asteroids are not largenge covech to cause global catastrophes like wiping out dinosaurs. “This is not a dinosaur killer. This is not a planet killer. This is the most dangerous part of the city,” reassured Moissl.
Does that mean we shouldn’t do anything about it? no. I hope Elon Musk is on shoulders.
