2024 was an attractive year for me for many reasons. I got a real estate broker license and left a warm COCO of Coldwell Banker D’nn Harper, the first public and transgender real estate specialty in Texas in 2017. Estate that started Jewel Real, a unique broker.
Please participate in the Inman Intel Index survey in January
Every day, I received hundreds of emails, texts, and telephones, as there seemed to be transgender, gender incompatibility, non -binary (known TGX) community and other attacks on our rights. I confirmed that I was okay. Know that I am.
When I spend the day, I have not personally experienced hatred from the average community. Certainly, if I stood more than 6 feet on the heel, some people would dazzle me, but no one called me, shouted to me, or pulled me from the bathroom.
But this is not just me. I’m worried that if there are too many real estate specialties, only the TGX community may be attacked. It is true that 0.6 % of TGX Americans, who are simply trying to live in our lives, are cultural and political lightning, but attacks on us also affect all of LGBTQ+community. I am giving it. We all are worried about what is going on today.
Impact on LGBTQ+real estate specialty.
As you can imagine, these are stressful times for allies, including allies, including allies.
Obviously, there are TGX members who need support. There are also TGX friends and clients, including families with TGX children. The same applies to many nervous LGBTQ+people other than the TGX community.
We are also talking to young members facing uncertainties for the first time in their lives. Many only know the equality of marriage, the ability to have children, and the opportunity to work and work in the same way as others. These young people are scared.
We are deeply concerned that there are people who are trying to take a greater LGBTQ+victory while demonstrating the TGX community, despite the hope of living in a welcome society. We cannot wake it up. And I hope that people who shared LGBTQ+community in the “Accelerating AccupTance 2024” report will stand up and speak before last year.
This is what the report shows:
Non -LGBTQ’s 91 % of the majority of Americans agree that LGBTQ+people should have freedom to live their lives and are not discriminated against. The majority of 84 % of non -LGBTQ Americans support LGBTQ+community equal rights. Non -LGBTQ+76 % of adults are comfortable to use transgenders and non -binary people at the worship area. Non -LGBTQ+75 % of adults are comfortable to learn that their families are gay, lesbian, and bisexual.
Why is this important for you?
You may be wondering what this is related to you, a real estate specialty. Ask it to be related to you.
First, the Alliance is sparingly estimated that 150,000 real estate agents have LGBTQ+children. We all hope that our society welcomes your child and forgive them to the joy and prosperity, including housing ownership. If we stand on a bystander, that will not happen.
The following are hundreds of thousands of real estate specialty, loving and supporting the parent Relative, a friend, or a colleague, which is specified as part of the LGBTQ+community. We need you (our allies) to understand our concerns and stand near us.
The last group is the largest. Everyone is making a living in this real estate industry. We are responsible for supporting all the rights of all people in buying and selling real estate without discrimination. This includes LGBTQ+community.
LGBTQ+Home Beeing: Increased
We are becoming more prominent and important in the real estate market. According to Zillow’s 2024 buyer housing report, 11 % of 2024 housing buyers are identified as LGBTQ+, which is a jump from 7 % in 2019. This is a big number. According to NAR, it is the same as the number of single men who recently purchased a house.
The US Census has reported that 12 million same -sex couples live in the United States and have increased the same -sex marriage by 70 % since the legalization of same -sex marriage in 2015. At the same time, UCLA’s Williams Research Institute pointed out 18 % of same -sex couples who married 18 % of LGBTQ+people. These are our clients, our members, and our friends.
The issues still remain in progress
Despite this progress, discrimination remains a harsh reality for many people. According to the U.S. Advanced Center, almost 30 % of LGBTQ+individuals are facing harassment and discrimination in the housing environment for the past year.
Furthermore, a survey by 2024 members of Alliance shows that 27.1 % of respondents think that discrimination against LGBTQ+potential housing has increased in the past three years. This increased from 21 % of the previous year to 17.9 % in 2022.
For elderly adults of LGBTQ+, issues can be even more serious. AARP discovered that 45 % of LGBTQ+adults were afraid of discrimination based on age at work. This is a clear obstacle to financial safety and housing possession.
According to the LGBTQ+Real Estate Alliance Survey, as an important reminder, our members are the main culprits in the place where LGBTQ+clients can see discrimination during the trading process.
Lead the fee
I shared some statistics and numbers about the LGBTQ+community, but I really talk about those who really have their future, dreaming of the first house, and families looking for places to grow. LGBTQ+people are human, simple and simple. Like all Americans, I and all LGBTQ+people deserve not only exist, but also prosperous.
LGBTQ+Real Estate Alliance will continue to pay for claims, but we can’t. We need everyone to keep building a really comprehensive industry. By defending a fair house, educating himself, and treating all of the original, present, or future clients with respect, help more people to achieve American dreams of housing -owned American. You can do it.
