
As Los Angeles’ fire continues to burn, our students face the sad reality of climate change. Regardless of whether they are directly influenced by flames, smoke, or social media feeds, it is natural that they feel desperate and helpless in such a terrible event. is.
Enter Amanda Goman, a former youth poet award winner and a champion for young people. She never moves away from the harsh truth facing the United States, but she always leaves space for her hope. Her new poem, the dawn dawn, is no exception to the fire that threatens her own house and destroyed her hometown.
It is an ideal text to share with students, creating an opportunity to explore what is happening in LA in an interdisciplinary exploration, and has an attached lesson plan to help students handle this tragedy.

Before you dig into the text of the project, please introduce the idea of one -Pagger. If you haven’t done one pager so far, take a few minutes to explain the concept and show some examples in your class. When your student works, circulate and answer the questions that come out. If you see a student struggling, you may invite someone nearby and invite someone to find a way to indicate what you are doing as an additional process.
