Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent has brushed off a recent report of the heated debate within President Donald Trump’s administration, saying the conflict is part of the usual push and pull of policymaking.
“Treasury secretaries dating back to Alexander Hamilton have a duel history,” Bescent joked Tuesday to CNBC’s “Squaw Box.” “I think the president’s team has gotten a little better this time around the Treasury.”
“Like President Trump’s team, like great sports teams, you can discuss in the locker room, but we’ll go out on the field and do our best for the President and the Americans every day,” he said.
Bescent’s remarks come after a recent storyline and a series of fiery conflicts between him and other Trump officials, including federal housing finance chief Bill Prute, detailed a series of fiery conflicts about the direction of economic policy and influence in Trump’s orbit. The temper flares up during this summer’s meeting, reportedly Bescent threatened to punch Parte “— in the face.”
Bescent, a hedge fund veteran, became Treasury Secretary in January. He has led the administration’s trade negotiations.
