MIAMI — Iconic Bayside business Shucker’s is closing its doors after 35 years on Miami’s waterfront.
Starting October 27th, this landmark will be closed.
Local residents and employees alike are saddened by the closure, which is the first in nearly 40 years.
“It’s a total travesty,” said local Daniel Labaton. “I’ve been coming here my whole life.”
Since 1989, this restaurant has been shucking oysters and serving food and drinks.
A high-end restaurant and hotel complex will soon be built in its place. Indigenous people fought for a different outcome and even created a petition to keep their seat. Despite their efforts, the North Bay Village store will close, but the memories will remain forever.
“We come here to the Haulover Sandbar and have drinks with friends and you pull up here on your boat and eat a great meal,” Michael Karp said.
Kevin Amiotto, area director of food and beverage for the Jesta Hotel, told CBS News Miami that they are looking for a new location to keep Shucker’s a local staple. The hope is to continue to stay close to the original location.
