Qantas has introduced new economy seats on its Airbus A330-200 aircraft with larger in-flight entertainment screens. These aircraft regularly fly internationally to Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo.
The new economy cabin interior features more comfortable seats for the Project Sunrise ultra-long range program. 13.3-inch touchscreen with 4K OLED technology. High-speed USB-C charging port. Bluetooth connectivity allows passengers to use their own headphones.
In addition, new ambient lighting will be installed in the cabin and the curtains and carpets will be replaced.
This update only affects the economy cabin, while the business suite section will maintain its current configuration with fully reclining bed seats.
The first Airbus A330 aircraft is expected to enter service at the Qantas facility in Brisbane in mid-2025, with entry into service at the end of the year and the refurbishment program expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Qantas CEO Cam Wallace said: “With our fleet update program, we have completely overhauled the in-flight experience and these cabin upgrades bring cutting-edge features and design to our current aircraft. We were able to implement it.”
“Customers will enjoy an all-new economy seat that has been created specifically to maximize comfort and provide the features customers want when traveling abroad. It will be a preview of the Project Sunrise flight experience as it is the same seat that will be built into the 1000ULR aircraft,” Wallace added.
Wi-Fi update
In addition to updating economy class seats, Qantas has begun the international rollout of Wi-Fi across its Airbus A330-200 fleet. Starting December this year, free high-speed internet will be available on Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft on some routes in Asia.
The service, similar to Qantas’ domestic flights, provides enough bandwidth for all passengers to enjoy fast and stable connections. The speed and reliability of inflight Wi-Fi has led to an average adoption rate of 75%, reaching 75% on some routes. 100% acceptable.
