On Friday covering the calendar year of 2024, we updated our Supreme Connections database with newly released financial disclosures from the Eight Supreme Court Justice.
Supreme Connections is a database that allows anyone to easily view judicial financial disclosures and search for connections with people and businesses listed therein.
The update includes disclosures submitted in May and published later last month. Judge Samuel Alito has received the 90-day extension, and his disclosure is expected later this summer.
The latest update details millions of book revenues, almost 40 trips and one gift.
In the disclosure:
Judge Clarence Thomas’ 2024 disclosure did not list gifts or travel refunds. In 2023, a Propublica survey revealed that Thomas was a frequent recipient of luxury trips and gifts from billionaire benefactors, and often did not disclose them. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson reported a $2.07 million advance from Penguin Random House in 2024’s “Lovely One.” She also disclosed more than 12 refunds to cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Seattle, Seattle, Chicago and Boston. Judge Sonia Sotomayor revealed an additional royalty payment from Penguin Random House, a book advance of $60,000 and more than $73,000. She listed eight refund trips from various universities, including international trips to Panama City, Zurich and Vienna, as well as $1,437 gifts from the Cotery Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri. He has made at least six paid trips, including international trips to Germany and Portugal and domestic trips in Dallas, Philadelphia and Williamsburg, Virginia. Judge Amy Coney Barrett received $31,815 to teach income from Notre Dame and reported three trips, including a trip to Malibu, California and two visits to Notre Dame. Judge Brett Kavanaugh reported $31,815 to teach him the income from Notre Dame, listing two trips there. Judge Elena Kagan reported on a trip to New York City for a speech at New York University. Supreme Court Justice John Roberts has disclosed two refund trips to Galway, New York, and the other to West Point, New York.
We also added a new way to view Justices investment holdings. Previously, investments were sorted by value. You can now group your investments in your account to see how justice configures holdings, or sort your investments in the order they appear in the original disclosure form, making it easier to cross-reference the original filing and data.
