Donald Trump on Friday sought to turn a major celebration of Kamala Harris into an attack line tied to one of his favorite themes: immigration.
Hours before the vice president was scheduled to appear in Houston with superstar Beyoncé, Trump made a personal stop in Texas, where Harris hung out as a “woke celebrity” and spoke about people killed by immigrants. He accused her of not hanging out with her family.
With 11 days until the election, Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris took a detour from their travels in battleground states, making a brief foray into solidly Republican Texas. Neither considers the state competitive, but rather uses it as a backdrop to convey messages about issues they want voters to keep in mind when casting their ballots.
For Trump, it’s border security. For Harris, it’s abortion rights.
President Trump’s visit to Texas, his second stop in the border state in two days, comes as the former US president further escalates his already dark and apocalyptic rhetoric against illegal immigration.
“We are like a dumpster to the rest of the world, in which they dump people they don’t want,” President Trump told supporters in Austin on Friday. President Trump continues to promote the baseless idea that foreign governments are actively sending criminals into the United States.
