On March 4th, I was very pleased to give a lecture at UW – excelling in my research on the failure of cascade experts (Ungated version here). You can find the lecture video on our YouTube channel. We would like to thank Dr. Joshua K. Bedy for hosting us, and the Wisconsin Institute for Civil Rights and Civil Dialogue to Sponsor the Event.
The talk will discuss the decision that early in the pandemic to book Covid-19 tests on hospital cases, it ended up cascadeting expert failures. However, I failed to draw that story to its conclusion, so I fixed it here.
By limiting the tests to hospitals, there was an upward bias in the results, and Covid-19 appealed much more fatal than it actually was. These results were fed into models like the now-growing Imperial College London model and were predicted in the mouths of millions. This, in turn, is fed into the story of the lockdown. Even as more and more evidence emerged that the virus was not as deadly as 11 ideas and that lockdowns actually contributed to the spread, those bad politics persisted.
