Language learning gets a boost with Lingolift, a new tool from the team behind Lingolift. Designed to help students gain confidence in their English skills, Lingolift offers interactive video lessons that help newcomers use and learn social and academic language as quickly as possible. We provide.
The great thing about Lingolift is the way it makes language practice feel natural and engaging, especially for newcomers, emerging English learners, and students who have interrupted their education. Lingolift combines visual support with audio practice to give students the opportunity to practice all four language domains (organizing, speaking, reading, and writing), all in a way that feels structured and flexible.
Kelsey Cardenas is an 8th grade ELAR teacher in Texas who tried out the apple lift with her students. That’s why her teacher is choosing the review and why she considers it a valuable resource for supporting her English learners.
Which grade level and subject area do you think Lingolift is best suited for?
I think grades 2-12 are an appropriate age range, as stated on the website. Almost all ages will be comfortable using the platform as long as they are computer savvy. I teach Elar, but Lingolift can also be used by all subjects. They have a variety of topics and interests covered at all levels.
How does Lingolift align with curriculum guidelines?
There are TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) listed in each lesson. I like that they are listed individually under each video instead of in a general location, so I could watch that lesson in particular.
How have you used the apple lift in your classroom?
I teach 8th grade On Level and Inclusion ELAR. I have many ELL students who also participate in special education. This would be a great tool for them to use in their own time to gain confidence in English and reading comprehension in general.
For a particular lesson, you have completed an informational text unit. To do this, you can have students watch videos, practice vocabulary, practice speaking sections, and then submit a written response related to the topic. This shows understanding of information and information.
We are heading towards the discussion unit. This is because you can have them discuss/discuss their answers after watching the video. For example, the Food Preferences video is a great place to start when introducing the unit. Because everyone has foods that they like and dislike. This will help ELL students feel comfortable when it comes time to share as a group with their peers.
How did your students respond to the apple lift?
They loved it! They said it helps. Most of my students who tried Ringolift with me have learned English in the past three years, so they are still new language learners and have more experience than beginner-level language learners. I understand.
How would you summarize your overall experience with Lingolift?
It worked! The website is fairly simple and easy to use, with many options to suit students’ needs and interests. I could see Lingolift being used in the classroom at least weekly.
How easy was it to use and implement in your classroom?
My students are older so they caught on pretty quickly. I’m not sure how much work it takes for second grade students to figure out how to navigate on their own, but I’m not sure how much work a teacher is leading in a small group setting at that age. You can see what helps. Most of it.
What did you like most about Lingolift?
Two things: I liked the speaking part and the worksheets included in each section. I tried to “ruin” the speaking part several times. You definitely need to have the correct pronunciation and inflection to mark it as correct.
Worksheets are great because students like to have something concrete and a reference sheet to look back on.
What makes Lingolift stand out compared to other products?
The progression from watching videos to filling in vocabulary words to speaking individual sentences was a great concept. I think it keeps it short and simple enough to maintain students’ attention while becoming increasingly difficult to accomplish based on their level of experience.
Do you plan to use Applelift again in the future?
Some of the students who tried the speaking part were very nervous! You can see how it is beneficial to use speaking segments more often to gain confidence without having to speak face-to-face with peers or teachers. If they don’t think they can pronounce the words or don’t want to have a full conversation, try to stay quiet in class.
Blank Vocabulary is perfect for students of all levels and even native speakers! I don’t think vocabulary is ever new, as long as it’s done in a way that challenges them and moves them forward.
What are your final thoughts on Lingolift?
I enjoyed using the website. I am always grateful for new technology that is helpful rather than a burden for teachers to utilize and implement. This is a great way to make technology work for us and help students move forward individually without feeling like they’re doing extra work.
