FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Fresno State University students are designing and selling products in a new business class to a customer base they know best: students just like them.
“We wanted this course to provide experiential learning for our students and allow them to learn by doing,” says Akhil Kanodia, Clinical Professor of Entrepreneurship Practice.
This is the first session of “Managing the New Venture” offered by the Craig School of Business.
Fresno State marketing major Elizabeth Lemons said, “A lot of times in college you get to take classes that are hands-on and actually create something, because a lot of us just run businesses from home. That’s why,” he says. “It’s a great opportunity to be able to get funding and get funding to do this.”
One student works as a manager at his family’s gas station and is already applying what he learned in the classroom.
“Every time I hear a professor explain some new marketing strategy or what’s going on in the market, I feel like this is something that can really help my business,” says Fresno State student Simran Latur. “It has helped me in class, academically, and even in my real-life career.”
The student-led pop-up store sells everything from trucker hats to tumblers to crewneck shirts, and students say the products are as diverse as the designers.
The 31 student designers specialize in multiple majors, including business administration, accounting, and finance.
“I feel like this class represents America in a way because we all come from diverse backgrounds, but we are the strongest when we come together and we are the ones who make our economy truly great.” ,” Latour said.
Students also learn about the realities of trademark law.
