Northern Kentucky education nonprofit EducateNKY receives a $500,000 donation to support its mission to build an education ecosystem that ignites every passionate and vibrant heart in Northern Kentucky .
The donation was made by United Way of Greater Cincinnati. Moira Weir, President and CEO of United Way Investments, emphasized the company’s commitment to partnerships aimed at increasing youth success and workforce readiness. EducateNKY is one of six organizations selected for a total investment of $2.3 million to support positive youth and educational outcomes and address critical challenges outside the classroom that hinder the stability and success of students and families. “We are extremely grateful for United Way’s award and are excited to work with United Way and the entire community to make bold decisions in Northern Kentucky,” said Chay Calbo, President and CEO of EducateNKY. “I will do my best to ‘move the needle,'” he said. “This award will have a transformative impact at this pivotal time and help move our region forward.”
EducateNKY was founded in August 2023 to complete a comprehensive assessment of the educational environment in Northern Kentucky. The report focused on the river city communities of Covington, Newport, Bellevue, Dayton, Southgate and Ludlow, where socio-economic disparities have resulted in academic achievement below state and regional averages.
After engaging key stakeholders in workgroups and gathering input, EducateNKY focused on five priority areas: early learning, family partnerships, out-of-school time/learning, mastery learning, and secondary options. Created a five-year strategic plan. EducateNKY recognizes its role as an incubator, activator, and accelerator, working with other partners to implement systemic changes that improve continuing education outcomes.
