MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. – The 23rd Audit Squadron will conduct financial support from across the Air Force from Oct. 14 to Oct. 24 to help Airmen and their families submit travel reimbursement forms following Hurricane Helen evacuations. Experts were summoned.
The 23rd Wing issued a limited evacuation order to provide relief to Airmen whose homes became uninhabitable during the initial recovery period after the hurricane made landfall on Sept. 27, 2024. These affected Airmen are now focused on submitting vouchers and processing refunds. . To address the increasing number of voucher submissions and complex submission requirements, the 23rd CPTS has hired financial experts from nearby facilities to streamline the process and ensure vouchers are delivered efficiently while reducing financial stress for evacuees. It is now processed as follows.
“It’s been a strange experience throughout the hurricane…but we know we’re helping people and making sure they get paid,” said Airman 1st Class, CPTS’ 23rd Financial Specialist. Ricardo Busta said.
Typically, requests to Moody’s finance team are made online, but due to the recent hurricanes that affected Team Moody extensively, Airmen and their families had the opportunity to get the help they need in person.
“Our office is pretty small, but we’re in an auditorium now,” Busta said of the department’s efforts to make the process faster and easier. “It’s much more engaging than just filing online. It’s not the same as talking to someone.” In some cases, talking to a real person allows you to ask questions and get your money back. ”
For those evacuated with their families, this assistance was a much-needed relief. Support from financial experts from other military installations proved essential to providing a smoother path forward.
Paul Hartness, 23rd CPTS Quality Assurance Manager, said: “When emergencies like this occur, there can be a lot of questions about how to handle a particular situation.” “I know that just a week before the storm hit, a lot of people were deployed and a lot of dependents were left behind. We had an opportunity to make it easier for them.”
The 23rd CPTS will continue to work with evacuees in the coming weeks to ensure all travel tickets are processed quickly. This initiative highlights the importance of interbase cooperation in supporting military families during times of crisis.
