As November 5 approaches, both Republicans and Democrats are pushing their agendas. They have put abortion and the economy at the forefront of their campaigns, but immigration is also a pressing issue for voters ahead of the election.
According to Pew Research, 61% of voters surveyed said immigration was “very important to their vote.” The poll showed voters were more confident that former President Donald Trump would make “wise decisions on immigration” than Harris.
Anti-immigrant rhetoric is dangerously xenophobic and racist. Trump and Vance’s cards went so far as to demonize immigrants, including Haitians and Venezuelans.
But according to Reuters, the Harris-Waltz ticket changed its platform on immigration from emphasizing a path to citizenship to focusing on border security.
For some, this is a matter of protecting America and its economy, but for many Americans it is a deeply personal issue. First- and second-generation immigrants have come to this country or watched their parents come to this country and work to the bone to provide a better life for the next generation.
