The Office of International Students and Scholars is calling on campuses to coordinate and host activities as part of International Education Week, a week-long celebration held from November 18th to 22nd, to highlight international education at University A. There will be lectures, presentations, and interactive events that recognize transformative impact. .
A joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and Department of Education, the week is celebrated across the United States each year to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange. Events organized for this initiative are sponsored by Graduate School and International Education in collaboration with registered student organizations, academic units, and other campus organizations.
Students, staff, faculty, and the community are invited to participate in IEW by organizing events that focus on international culture. Organizations wishing to host activities during the week can register by submitting an event to the IEW calendar. If you are interested in submitting an event, please see the instructions on the GSIE website.
If you want to participate but don’t know what to do, check out these event ideas.
Invite guest speakers to talk about world events or cultural themes that are relevant to your group or organization. Arrange presentations on university study abroad programs. Encourage students to apply for passports and share information about study abroad scholarships. For more information, please contact the study abroad office. Ask a member of the International Culture Team to give a cultural presentation for your class or group. Organize an International Career Day by inviting alumni and local international experts as speakers. We plan programs and presentations with an “international” theme. We plan an event to introduce the importance of foreign language learning. Plan a panel discussion on business internationalization and global food systems. We are recruiting alumni with overseas experience (Fulbright students, teachers, former diplomats, Peace Corps volunteers, business leaders, journalists) to discuss international careers and the importance of international education and exchange. This can be formal, like a panel presentation or speech, or casual, like a coffee hour or brown bag lunch. Feature international students and scholars in your unit on your social media accounts. Produce and/or show a video about the experiences of international students in your department or students returning from a semester or year abroad. To emphasize international engagement, leverage the talents of undergraduate students and faculty to host performances, art exhibits, or interactive elements.
International Education Week is coordinated by the Offices of International Students and Scholars, Study Abroad and International Exchanges, Sponsored Students and Special Programs, and International Admissions. For more information, please visit the ISS website.
