It’s approaching. There are nine days left until votes begin counting on election night.
This week, host Jim Needelman will focus his entire show on perhaps the region’s most hotly contested race: race.
It’s a seat in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District between incumbent Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Democrat Christina Bohannan.
Tracking this campaign’s finances shows that both Democrats and Republicans consider this seat extremely important.
Here’s how much each campaign has spent so far in the election cycle ending Sept. 30. Bohannan spent about $4 million and had about $1.3 million in cash on hand at the time. Miller-Meeks had put about $2.5 million into his re-election campaign, and had more than $2 million left in his campaign account at the end of September.
There are very few votes on this race. Posts published on political tracking website 538.com between September 30 and October 1 show Bohannan leading Miller-Meeks by 50 to 46 percentage points. However, this was conducted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s Targeting and Analytics Division. Please feel free to receive it.
Host Jim Niedelman spoke with both candidates this week about the final days of the campaign and asked them the same questions about some of the important issues facing the country.
“Securing our borders is extremely important,” Bohanan said. “I launched my party and said I believe President Biden is too slow to act on the border issue.”
“We already have some legal immigration bills that we’re trying to pass,” Miller-Meeks said.
