(Chillicothe) – Adena Health and Shawnee State University join together in a new educational partnership that will meet the growing demand for healthcare professionals and give those interested in a career in healthcare an advantage in securing future employment. I’m doing it.
The two organizations are expanding their existing relationship in a new initiative to establish an academic campus site for the Shawnee State College of Health and Human Services at Adena’s PACCAR Medical Education Center in Chillicothe. The initiative, which will initially explore nursing and radiology technology, has the potential to provide education and training to approximately six medical professionals.
Areas planned for expansion as the partnership evolves include medical laboratory technology, physical therapist assistants, respiratory therapy, and occupational therapy.
For local students, this new partnership will expand their access to their desired educational programs without the need for travel time, allow them to build relationships and immerse themselves in a real-world healthcare environment, and help them improve their local experience after graduation. It will be advantageous to get a job. . For Adena Health, it provides a pool of potential candidates to meet future staffing needs facing hospitals across the country. For Shawnee State University, additional space will be provided to meet student demand for these programs.
“The ability to offer this curriculum on our campus allows us to train students here, gain clinical experience, and hopefully step into open roles here as our efforts to meet the needs of our community continue to grow.” ” said Adena Health. Mr. Jeff Graham, President and CEO.
Shawnee State University President Eric Brown added, “The best thing we can do is hire local talent and keep them in south and south-central Ohio.” “We have a lot of people who want to stay in the area professionally, so the more we can offer attractive services like this, the more we can retain this local talent. .”
This initiative will not impact Adena’s existing education and training partnerships with other area universities or Shawnee State University’s relationships with other area hospitals, which both parties continue to value. I am doing it.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the country’s health care industry is expected to add about 1.8 million jobs each year over the next 10 years, but face a shortage of hundreds of thousands of workers. Access to programs like the one created by this partnership can help address regional disparities.
Over time, this program will bring several benefits to both health care and the economy across the region. among them:
· Contribute to the creation of a continuous and stable medical workforce for all hospitals in the region that can meet all the needs of the community now and in the future.
· Improve overall health outcomes in communities across the region.
· Expand the recruitment pipeline for top talent and provide opportunities for graduates to find and fill open positions within the health system.
· Leverage shared resources available through both Adena and Shawnee States for the benefit of future health care workers.
Shawnee State University is working with the necessary accrediting bodies and external regulatory approval bodies to explore potential opportunities and develop timelines.
