In the shadow of the recent wildfires that destroyed Altadena, California, unexpected beacons of joy have emerged at six local high schools to allow the community to work on ways to rebuild their lives. Steve Carell, the actor best known for his time on the American sitcom The Office, films himself on Instagram and makes promises to all his seniors.
Actor Steve Carell will partner with Alice’s kids to pay a PROM ticket for Wildfire Actims!
Steve Carell, partnering with Alice’s children
Beware, all seniors! This is Steve Carell with a very special announcement. I work with an incredible Virginia-based charity called Alice’s Children. And Alice’s kids wanted you to let them know they would pay for all your prom tickets. And if you have already paid for your prom ticket, they will refund you for your prom ticket. That’s pretty good. Have fun, enjoy the prom and remember. This is Steve Carell. Make it simple, everyone.
Well, if you’ve come this far or saw his funny Instagram clip, the irony won’t be lost to you. But aside from how this ironic spirit video heartfelts, let’s share more about its partnership with the incredible nonprofit Carrell.
The Power of Generous Gestures: Alice’s Children
Behind this generous gesture is the children of Alice, a Virginia-based nonprofit dedicated to children who are quietly elevated in the face of financial difficulties. The organization’s unique and dignified approach provides modest support to prevent the shame that can accompany children’s financial struggles. They reach out to help for a variety of needs, including prom tickets, field trip fees, summer camp registrations, and even clothing back to school.
These contributions may seem small, but we know that their impact on the self-esteem and emotional well-being of young people is important. Alice’s children operate with simple beliefs. All children deserve to feel normal, included and easygoing, especially when families navigate financial difficulties. By covering costs that could otherwise lead to elimination, children will be able to fully participate in pivotal childhood experiences without burdens or stigma. Teachers can also apply for support from Alice’s children!
Prom is a night to remember.
This initiative and donation by Steve Carell and Alice’s children not only brings nightly joy and one burden to these high school seniors, but also highlights the importance of community support during times of crisis. Heroism can come in many different forms. Sometimes the smiles of seniors who can dance the night without worry, thanks to thoughtful gestures from their beloved actors and caring organizations. As Altadena reconstructs, their community remembers this act of kindness. Prom Night made possible by Steve Carell (no laptop battery either!)
