David Harbour, who has said he could be one of Stranger Things’ biggest critics, says in his book that the series finale was great.
On Thursday, the actor appeared at New York Comic Con during the 10th anniversary celebration of Josh Horowitz’s podcast “Happy Sad Confused.” Harbor, who has appeared on the pod many times over the years to discuss projects like “Stranger Things” and “Thunderbolts,” gave viewers an update on the show’s final season.
“We read the final episode of season 5, and look. I’m very close to the show, so I have very strong opinions, but if you’re a fan of the show, They may not agree with your opinion,” Haber told the crowd. Business Insider was also in attendance.
As an actor with behind-the-scenes access, Harbor said he can get “very upset” about episodes that he doesn’t think are good. However, he didn’t feel that way about the finale.

“They landed the plane. This is the best episode they’ve ever done,” he said.

He says the table read in this episode will be more emotionally devastating than his own character’s fake death in Season 3.
“At the end of this episode, when we were reading it, when we were the only ones reading it, about halfway through people started crying,” he said.
“And the last 20 minutes were just different people crying uncontrollably. Noah Schnapp was my favorite,” Haber said, before dramatically imitating Schnapp’s sobbing.
Haber said that for the series’ young cast, “Stranger Things” is a distillation of their childhood. Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, and Gaten Matarazzo were still teenagers when the show premiered in 2016. Now they are adults. Director Haber said he agreed with this in the show’s conclusion.
“We’re looking at the idea, and it’s so well done, so beautiful. I wasn’t going to come out here and say something like that,” he said. “And it’s such a great episode and such a great season. I think you’re going to love it.”
“Stranger Things” is one of the most successful shows in Netflix history. Two of the four seasons are among the streamer’s most popular English series. Season 4 alone has garnered 1.8 billion hours of viewing time, according to the streamer’s data.
