As reporters for the Lexington Herald-Leader, we first began hearing alarming stories in 2023 from former clients and staff at Addiction Recovery Care, once Kentucky’s largest residential addiction treatment provider. Over the past three years, we have spoken with dozens of former and current ARC clients and staff. And in April, we worked with ProPublica to publish an article detailing how ARC allegedly used its staff to fraudulently bill Kentucky Medicaid for millions of dollars, an allegation the company denies.
In my next article, I will take a closer look at how ARC treated people who came to the organization seeking help with sobriety. We particularly want to hear from clients as well as staff who have worked closely with clients to provide care.
If you have been or are currently a customer or employee of ARC, please tell us about your experience with the treatment provider. Your perspective will inform our reporting and ensure that we understand the issue from all sides.

We collect these stories for reporting, which can take weeks or months. Although we may not be able to follow up with everyone, we will read all submissions and use them to guide our project.
