FOLLY BEACH, SC, October 20, 2025 /24-7 Press Release/ — Wesley Moore III has been named a Marquis Who’s Who. As with all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, the individuals profiled are selected based on current baseline values. Factors such as position, notable accomplishments, name recognition, and prominence are all considered during the selection process.
With more than 40 years of service and creative accomplishments, Mr. Moore is known for an influential career in education and literature. After a long tenure as an educator and leader in the academic community, he has been enjoying retirement since 2018.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Moore was an English teacher at Porter Gord School in Charleston, South Carolina for nearly 35 years. In this position, he was responsible for preparing lessons and developing assignments that encouraged critical thinking and a love of literature in his students. His commitment to educational excellence was further demonstrated during his eight-year term as chair of the English Department at Porter Gaw College, providing leadership and guidance to faculty while shaping the school curriculum to meet the highest academic standards.
Early in his career, Mr. Moore taught at a community college and contributed to the educational development of students at the higher education level. Through each role, he demonstrated a dedication to fostering intellectual growth and supporting student achievement while continuing to grow as an educator.
Mr. Moore’s own educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in 1975, which provided a strong foundation for his teaching career and influenced his approach to both classroom instruction and literary pursuits. He attributes much of his success to his unwavering dedication to education, which is central to his professional accomplishments and continued creative work.
In addition to his 40 years of service as an educator, Mr. Moore is also an accomplished writer. His debut novel, Today Oh Boy (Austin McCauley, 2023), a comedy about social upheaval set in 1970 South Carolina, was described by Kirkus Review as a “quietly sublime historical drama” with praise for its “dazzling characters”. Two years later, he published a memoir, Long Ago Last Summer, which Kirkus called “a heartfelt and deeply personal assortment of lived experiences and fictionalized accounts.” In 2025, a short film inspired by Today, Oh Boy – Summerville 1970 premiered at the Terrace Theater in Charleston, South Carolina.
Mr. Moore’s academic honors include the John E. Gibbs Teaching Award from the Porter Gaw School (1996) and the Teaching Award from Stanford University (2003). His novels have been selected twice for the South Carolina Arts Commission Fiction Project and have won the Piccolo Spoleto Festival Fiction Open Contest four times. His story “Airwaves” was anthologized in Inheritance (Hub City Press) and his poem “Nassau Street Song” was published in From the Green Horseshoe: Poems of James Dickey’s Students (University of South Carolina Press).
In addition to writing, Moore also creates digital collages printed on canvas. Some hang out at local restaurants. He is the father of two sons from his first marriage to the late Judy Birdsong, and currently resides in Folly Beach, South Carolina, with his wife, Caroline, and stepdaughter, Brooks.
