Discover Drata’s L&D success stories
Founded in 2020, SaaS Platform Drata offers security and compliance automation solutions to ensure continuous compliance with SoC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR and other frameworks. Their mission is to simplify and streamline compliance in highly regulated industry, allowing clients to focus on innovation without compromising security standards.
With a fast-growing team of over 400 employees and a fully remote team, Dorata faced the challenge of building dynamic and scalable training programs, catching up to the rapid growth and ensuring the skills of employees to succeed in a global environment.
This case study explores how DRATA has overcome these learning and development challenges by optimizing training programs, streamlining content creation, and building a collaborative learning academy.

As a fast-moving company in the security and compliance sector, Drata needed an agile learning solution that could support a growing workforce while maintaining the demands of the industry.
When Dana Fagley joined as a senior manager in learning and development in July 2022, she faced an ambitious job: building an L&D team from scratch and scalable programs for upskills and leadership development.
There were many reasons why we needed to find new learning solutions. I took part in the task of building the learning development team and all the programs that go with it. – Dana Fagley, Senior Manager, L&D
Scaling L&D with a small team
Prior to 360 study, Drata’s learning program was primarily ad hoc. They relied on basic LMS for essential compliance training, leading employees to seek their resources. Due to the lack of clear structure, it was difficult to scale the program effectively. For one new L&D team, this fragmented approach created a major obstacle to providing a consistent and engaging learning experience.
Administrator overload and lack of automation
Drata’s growth outweighs the capabilities of legacy LMS, so administrators were overwhelmed by repetitive tasks such as user registration and juggling multiple spreadsheets. Without an efficient and automated system, even the everyday L&D tasks would have taken time. This made it difficult to free up enough time to track training initiatives, gain insight into learner engagement, and create robust learning content.
Limited opportunities for employee upskills
Employees wanted more than a mandatory compliance course. They needed a clear pathway for growth and speed-up in a highly regulated industry. Without a joint framework, subject experts (SMEs) had little incentive (or support) to share knowledge. As a result, valuable expertise was stored in silos, and Drata struggled to provide modern, role-specific training.
Lack of important integration in seamless L&D
In addition to the challenges of scaling and automation, Drata’s existing technology stack is even more complicated. Previous LMS and HRI did not integrate well, causing users to jump between platforms, leaving incomplete records for administrators. For small teams aiming to prove the value of their L&D programs, the lack of robust integration and integration reporting has made it difficult to secure leadership buy-in.
Solution
Drata needed a learning platform that simplified management, enhanced SME-driven training, and seamlessly connected to existing systems. After assessing multiple vendors, they chose 360 Learning for its powerful authoring and integration capabilities, as well as a blend of flexible and intuitive interfaces for both learners and administrators. Here’s how they tackled each of the challenges:
Automation as the basis for scalable learning
To handle the rapidly growing workforce using the L&D team, Drata leveraged 360 Learning features, including automated user registration, updates, notifications and a real-time report dashboard. With many of the “busy” automations of managers, Dana and her team were able to shift their focus to designing impactful learning experiences.
360 Learning, the only one [our previous LMS] It was used in mandatory compliance training. After deep diving, we knew we needed a new system that could grow with us and manage our current needs while supporting a global, remote workforce…and we wanted to find a system that would help us automate as many jobs as possible. – Dana Fagley
Intensive tool for more efficient L&D delivery
By consolidating registration, content delivery, reporting and communications in one place, Drata significantly reduced management overhead. Instead of juggling multiple platforms and spreadsheets, administrators and learners gained a single source of truth for all training initiatives. The 360 Learning dashboard also made it easier to measure engagement across the organization, streamline the process and promote a more strategic approach to L&D.
Collaborative Learning Academy for a more powerful learning culture
To promote continued skill development, Drata has implemented the Brand Academy to promote employee-driven collaborative learning. One outstanding example is the Author Academy. This is a self-paced certification program that teaches employees how to create training courses at 3600 Learning. This helps everyone at Drata, from leaders to individual contributors, share their expertise across the company, and expand the skills gap internally.
Drata has also launched an academy of new and emerging leaders aimed at fostering current and future leaders. This initiative has led to a double increase in learner engagement from one quarter to the next quarter, reflecting how peer-driven content can recharge high-end efforts.

Seamless integration with Opensame
A key factor in Drata’s decision to switch to 360 Learning was the seamless integration with content provider Opensame.
By incorporating Opensame’s vast library of curated content directly into the 360 Learning platform, Drata has instant access to the workforce to a wide range of ready-made courses, ranging from microlearning modules to podcasts and book overviews.
This meant that the L&D team could easily deploy new training, and managers had a powerful tool to track completion and engagement.
