If the US intends to abandon its birth, the best hope for a small country is to strengthen mutual defense partnerships, perhaps creating a unified European defence force. It would be much weaker than the US military. But the determination to not need military advantage to succeed only needs to be strong enough to cause considerable pain to the enemy. The Swiss forces were not strong enough to defeat Germany in World War II, but they were strong enough because Germany didn’t consider it to be worth attacking. Europe needs an army so strong that the American masses don’t have a stomach for the invasion of Danish.
