On Thursday, the Supreme Connections database was updated with new disclosures, adding a 2023 filing by Justice Samuel Alito and eight previously missing disclosures from Justice Clarence Thomas dating back to the 1990s.
Supreme Connections is a database that allows anyone to easily view judicial financial disclosures and search for connections with people and businesses that have mentioned them.
This update includes Alito’s 2023 disclosures. This was released in August after receiving the extension. These filings were previously unavailable in the database. The federal ethics law requires judges to submit these disclosures each year, but the law requires that most submissions be destroyed after six years, making it difficult to find many past disclosures.
Alito’s disclosure includes $900 concert tickets for Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis, reported by the New York Times. The Bavarian nobleman, once known as the “punk princess,” has reinvented himself in recent decades, working closely with conservatives and Catholic circles in Europe.
The newly added Thomas Filing covering 1992-1999 reveals over 100 gift or travel-related refunds. We went to Bohemia Globe, an all-men’s retreat in Northern California. Propublica previously reported how Crow offered Thomas a wide range of private trips, including several other trips to Bohemian Grove. Thomas insists that there is no need to disclose such gifts.
