The American Immigration Council does not endorse or oppose candidates for elected office. We aim to provide an analysis of the election’s impact on the U.S. immigration system.
Are you a lawyer looking for a way to provide free legal support to people working on immigration cases, or do you have someone who can volunteer to act as an interpreter for lawyers?
Please consider joining the Immigrant Justice Campaign. We provide our volunteer attorneys with all the support they need to take on immigration cases, whether or not they have worked on immigration cases before. Here’s how it works:
We would be happy to set up a quick welcome call to get to know you and learn more about our program. We will match you with those who are looking for an agency. One of our staff attorneys will work with you throughout the duration of your case, providing dedicated guidance and all the resources necessary to provide quality representation to your clients.
Our lawyer volunteers come from all kinds of legal backgrounds. Some have just graduated from law school, others practice law unrelated to immigration, and some have decades of experience. Many people choose to volunteer with the Immigrant Justice Campaign in part because they want to learn how to practice immigration law. Our model is designed to provide attorneys from all types of legal backgrounds with the knowledge, skills, and guidance they need to effectively represent their clients.
Otherwise, the clients our attorneys represent would be left navigating the system on their own. We currently work with clients in immigration detention as well as LGBTQ asylum seekers outside of detention.
We are also looking for volunteer interpreters. No legal knowledge is required to become an interpreter. You can apply from our website. We frequently need volunteers who speak Spanish or Arabic. We encourage anyone who speaks any language to apply.
We also provide regular advocacy opportunities for volunteers and the public. If you would like to receive targeted and strategic ways to message your elected officials and take other actions in support of immigrant rights, please join our email list.
Whatever your involvement, we look forward to working with the Immigrant Justice Campaign soon. With attacks on immigrants and their rights increasing every day, we need all the help we can get.
