HATTIESBURG, Mich. (WDAM) – Starting a business, large or small, requires a lot.
The networking event, organized by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, featured Hub City’s most experienced business owners sharing their wisdom and knowledge.
“We had 27 vendors come tonight,” said sorority member Keshia Jones. “They get to showcase their products, services and products and get more exposure.” spoke.
Jennifer James opened Angel Rose Aesthetics & Wellness in 2020.
After quitting her 9-to-5 job in 2022, the clinic is now her full-time job.
“Once I needed to work full time to promote my business, I stepped back from that time,” James said. “For the past two years I have been working on the business full-time and it is growing every month.”
James said the Hattiesburg community has shown the clinic a lot of love over the past four years.
But she wants aspiring businessmen and women to understand that keeping the door open isn’t as easy as it seems.
“We need to give them a framework to start their business and let them know that a little bit can go a long way,” James said. “So make sure you take small steps and plan everything out.”
Rita Mitchell of the USM Small Business Development Center believes Hattiesburg is a hot spot for creators.
Whether it’s a T-shirt or a cap on your head, there seems to be room for everyone to grow.
“Anyone can have a side hustle,” Mitchell said. “Anyone can start, from children to college students.”
Mitchell said the key is finding your niche.
Once that is done, the center will help you move from thought to reality.
“Schedule a consultation, ask to become a client, and check out our site,” Mitchell said. “There are a lot of resources out there.”
