During the aforementioned period, bilateral free trade agreements have also been negotiated with major APEC member countries such as China, Singapore, Thailand, United States, Canada, South Korea, Chile, Mexico, Japan, and Australia. These efforts have enabled approximately 1,500 small and medium-sized enterprises and 2,200 small and medium-sized enterprises to trade more effectively with the Asia-Pacific region.
Recently, in 2021, Peru was integrated as a party to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), a mechanism promoted by APEC.
In the same year, approximately 5,200 Peruvian companies exported goods worth USD 37,994 billion to the APEC region, and imports from the region amounted to USD 30,479 billion.
From 2016 to 2021, Peru received US$2.823 billion in APEC funds allocated to finance 36 projects presented in the following working groups of the Committee for Economic and Technical Cooperation: Science, technology and innovation. Food safety; Health; Marine and fishing; Transportation; Expert group on illegal logging and related trade. Furthermore, women and the economy.
