HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – With the election just around the corner, many organizations are campaigning for voter support.
One of the key issues on the November ballot is the Second Amendment, which centers on school funding.
Public education advocates gathered at the Appalachian Arts Alliance in Hazard as part of Protect Our Schools KY’s #VoteNOon2 homestretch tour.
Eddie Campbell, president of the Kentucky Education Association, said his experience in the public school system has given him the courage to advocate for public schools to have all the resources they need.
“As a public school educator, I’m a big advocate for public schools,” Campbell said. “As a product of public schools, I know what public schools do to change the lives of their students every day. “Our public schools are the heart and soul of every community across the Commonwealth.”
Educators and advocates spoke about the importance of the public school system and said Issue 2 is taking critical resources away from public schools.
Supporters on both sides of the issue said it was meant to help Kentucky parents have control over their children’s education and the right to choose schools that reflect their values.
